Concept project · About

Thirty-nine years of supplying people who measure things.

Meridian started as a two-room sample shop. It is still run by people who would rather ask you one more question than sell you the wrong box.

Our story

Specify first, then ship.

In 1987 Meridian was a small counter in Reading, selling glassware and pipettes to university labs. Customers kept asking the same thing: which instrument will actually run our samples, and what will it cost to keep it running? So the counter became a specification desk.

Over the next two decades the catalogue grew into hematology, microscopy and centrifuges, then into plant-floor sensors and safety kit when local manufacturers started asking for the same service. The rule stayed the same. Every line gets a spec sheet we have checked, a lead time we will keep, and a person who answers the phone.

This website is a concept. The company is invented. The habits it describes are the ones we would want from any supplier we buy from.

Values

How we work

  1. 01

    Specify before we sell

If the instrument will not do the job, we say so, and suggest what will.

  2. 02

    Dates we can keep

Lead times are quoted from stock we can see, not from a hopeful spreadsheet.

  3. 03

    Traceable supply

Batch, expiry and calibration records travel with every consumable and calibrator.

  4. 04

    Plain pricing

Quotes show the parts, the service and the consumables in separate lines.

Timeline

Four decades, five milestones

  1. Reading counter opens

Glassware and pipettes for university labs, with a specification desk.

  2. Industrial line added

Pressure and temperature sensors for local manufacturers.

  3. Rotterdam hub

Continental warehouse for next-day delivery across the EU.

  4. Safety and PPE

EN-marked gloves, eyewear and flame-resistant clothing join the catalogue.

  5. Dubai office

Support for GCC labs and plants, with weekend stock checks.

People

The team, fictional

Invented names for the concept. Each role is one a real supplier would need.

    Managing director

Twenty years in lab procurement. Still reads every quote before it goes out.

  • Ravi Patel

    Head of laboratory equipment

Former clinical lab scientist. Owns the hematology and microscopy range.

  • Mira Jansen

    Industrial sensors lead

Commissioning engineer. Has climbed more plant gantries than she admits.

  • Tom Okafor

    Customer service manager

Runs the phones and the enquiry queue. The reason replies come within four hours.
